- Because I still don't have a finished object to post I'm here again with random things knit and otherwise...
- A little while back I posted about knitters whining about how knitting is supposedly being dumbed down. Here's a funny post on that same topic.
- Interactive Salaryman - make sure you click on members to see some silliness (via octopus dropkick)
- Jewelry from Angela Tong - beautiful things and she's also a knitter! I bought one of her swan rings and love it. I'd post a photo of mine, but I need a manicure.
- The Gap curvy jeans come in ultra low rise and regular low rise so I'm going to try them again. Perhaps the regular ones won't look so hootchified on me. I also hope they don't have that horrifying underwire for the tummy effect. You know what I'm talking about. They had better work, because I think I have to get a new pair today. I am right now wearing the magical growing jeans. Seriously, they expand by about 2 sizes throughout the day. It's awful.
- How to properly sew on a button. This blog gives an interesting peek into the world of bespoke tailors and is produced (I think) by the guy behind gaping void.
- Knit Picks has posted their new fall collection of yarns. I'm intrigued by decadence and panache, but am not so sure about the colors. Maybe I'll have to order a color card. I wish yarn manufacturers would work more closely with the fashion industry. Also, check out the pantone fashion color report to see the colors we'll supposedly be wearing this fall.
- Fine Sewer Art - One of my stranger "hobbies" is that I like to take photos of cool manhole covers. I even won a contest with one of my shots.
- Mugatu's Derelict Campaign from Zoolander, er never mind, it's actually one of the new Rowan books
- OK Go (video link) - Goofy boys dancing, complete with goofy choreography. What's not to love? (via Signal vs. Noise)

i LOVE the manhole website!! very cool.

Isn't it? A lot of the same photos also end up in the Flickr manhole cover pool: http://www.flickr.com/groups/manhole/pool/

I am proud to be a Big Dumb Knitter.

I used to have a pair of growing jeans as well, actually they were gap. This made me never buy gap again, though I did like the lean and fit or long and fit jeans (dont remember the name).

I like the button sewing link - no matter how many I sew on, I still think I'm doing it wrong!

whoa I don't know if it's luck or what but I've never had a problem with my gap jeans. But then I usually buy them too tight BECAUSE cotton stretches (and you know I for some reason always think I'm thinner than I am). Had no idea the curvy cut came in ultra-low rise that would explain your problems. I bought them months ago right when they were introduced and only came in a regular rise. They are a little bit low slung but not much say upper hip area, which is good because who wants mom jeans? Too high a rise and you've got MAJOR fupa.

Hooray for big dumb knitters.
Kitten, you are right on. No one wants the mom jeans. The first ones I tried on were ULTRA low rise. The sort which would require a date with a Brazilian. Cotton does stretch, but there is one particular wash of Gap long and lean jeans which REALLY stretch to a ridiculous amount. They totally suck. I bought a different pair of CURVY jeans tonight. We'll see how they work.

That post on knitting dumbed down is so funny. Interesting perspective.
I am tempted by a few new yarns at Knitpicks...., but I just bought more knitting needles and a ball winder from www.joann.com. There is a 50% off coupon and I ended up getting the ball winder for half off. The sale is valid until today.
Well, it's nice to know that my hubba bubba scarf will fit into the colors from the Pantone Fashion color report.

You are so in with your love of purple! Where did you get the 50% off coupon? I NEED to get a ball winder!
Posted by: Amy | August 14, 2005 at 11:28
Never mind - I see it on their site! Cool!!!
Posted by: Amy | August 14, 2005 at 11:29
My parents told me that when I was little, I use to say I wanted a purple house and purple car when I grew up. Hahahaha.....thank goodness I have better taste now.
You have to use the coupon by today. Buy it! They also have a swift, but I am going to wait until they have their next sale or coupon code. I would never have bought the ball winder if it wasn't 50% off. I can't wait for it to come!

A purple house and car would be funny. Is it wrong that I would like a pink stucco house?
I ordered the winder today. Thanks for pointing out the sale! Yee haw! Can't wait. I think I may buy a swift from Ami Ami - http://www.ami-itoya.com/ca/ - because they are only CAD$40. Cheap! I don't need a fancy handcrafted wooden one.
Posted by: Amy | August 14, 2005 at 15:35
Thanks for the link to Ami Ami. Man you know all the best places to shop! I thought that all swifts were made of wood. I actually prefer the the one on Ami Ami. Have you bought any of their yarns?
LOL! pink stucco...

Love the link to Pantone colors! I'm checking out the Ami Ami swifts now since I need one of those.
Posted by: jillz | August 14, 2005 at 16:46
Aren't those pantone colors fun?
I haven't ordered from AmiAmi yet, but they were nice enough to send me a set of color cards earlier this year. Their yarns seem really interesting. I like the one on AmiAmi better too - and they call it a kurikuri, which is a much cuter name than swift. Ha.

Wow, that dumb knitter post got heated in the comment section. Why do people care if someone only wants to knit I-pod socks?
on another note, I strongly recomend the curvy jeans. I would buy them a tad tighter. I am in between two sizes and bought the size up. They get bigger after the first wearing.
rambling comment, sorry.

Thank you Lyn, I'm so excited!
Megan - I know! It got pretty wacky.
I bought the curvy jeans. Am not sure how I feel about them. I think I liked the long and lean more, even though they had the baggy waist problem.
