I've read that some folks have already spotted knitscene on the store shelves. I'm looking forward to checking it out. Interweave has already posted PDFs of some of the projects from this first issue. Predictably, I'm most drawn to a project that isn't available yet -- the Neck Warmer.
knitting in public also pointed out an interesting feature - On the Street: Knits Spotting Gallery. It's a good idea and I hope they feature larger images next time around.
From their tagline, for the spirited knitter, I'm guessing this new magazine is meant to be a direct competitor of Vogue Knitting's knit.1. It seems they might be on the right track, because they already have one project featured on You Knit What??. Unfortunate tunic aside, the projects all seem pretty safe, so I'm sure they will stick around a bit longer than recently departed R2. I know many thought the R2 magazines and yarn were too weird, but I'm disappointed that Rowan has decided to discontinue the whole line.
Here are a few random links to distract you from the horror of that mesh tunic:
- Scenes from an elevator (thanks Newlin)
- You can download a demo of Age of Empires III! (page doesn't seem to work in Firefox) This will hold me over until CivIV comes out.
- Cute laptop bags (I've had this one saved in bloglines for ages - via The Bag Lady)
- Green Goddess Dressing
- Scientists Finding Out What Losing Sleep Does to a Body (via plasticbag.org)
- Technorati has a blog finder in beta, but it seems seriously flawed. English Cut is listed as the blog that has the "most authority" for the tag knitting. Now I'm actually quite a fan of that blog, and have linked to it before, but it seems oddly placed in the knitting category, especially because it doesn't seem to have a single post that contains the word knitting. It makes me wonder about what other blog finder categories are similarly screwy.
- The NBA's Etan Thomas - "I am totally against this war," Thomas says adamantly. "But at the same time, I am completely for the troops. Republicans tried to paint the picture that if you were against the war, you were somehow unpatriotic, and that couldn't be further from the truth. What's truly unpatriotic is misleading an entire nation into war under false pretenses."

I love green goddess dressing, Ive made it a few times and its quite the hit.
Im not sure about knitscene yet, I think I have to see it in person. I liked the idea of R2 I just dont think it was done right

The dressing sounded so yummy that I had to link to it so I wouldn't forget about it. Glad to hear it is really good!
I guess I liked R2 because other knit mags tend to lean heavily toward le frump. The yarns were also interesting. The biggest problem for me was the price. Some of them were horribly expensive here. I could order them from England and have them shipped here for less than what they were at my LYS.

I still have some R2 yarn (Paper I think) that I was going to use to make one of the sweaters in the first issue. It's kind of a crazy lime green...probably will be a skinny scarf at some point. I think knitscene looks way better than knit.1. The clutch purse is pretty cute!

That paper yarn was very cool. I've been hoarding some in pink. The only knitscene I really like at this point is the neck warmer. Maybe some of the others will grow on me. They just didn't stand out to me as anything that wouldn't belong in a regular issue of Interweave Knits.
